Fees & Financial Assistance
Making Therapy More Accessible
At Austin Family Institute, we believe access to mental healthcare should not be limited by financial circumstances. As a nonprofit organization, we offer a sliding-scale fee structure designed to make thoughtful, systemic therapy more accessible to individuals, couples, and families in our community.
How Our Sliding Scale Works
Our sliding-scale fee structure helps us determine an affordable fee based on your household's financial circumstances. When determining your fee, we consider factors such as your household income and the number of people you support.
Our goal is to provide high-quality, affordable mental healthcare while ensuring that our services remain accessible to as many people as possible.
We do not accept insurance. Instead, we offer services at affordable, reduced rates and work with individuals and families to determine a fee that fits their circumstances.
Our Fees
The fee for therapy depends on the therapist you work with and your household's financial circumstances.
Graduate Associates
Our Graduate Associates are therapists-in-training who are completing their graduate education and developing their skills through hands-on experience, ongoing supervision, and training.
Fees start at $30 per 50-minute session.
Post-Graduate Associates
Our Post-Graduate Associates have completed their graduate education and are continuing their professional development through advanced training, supervision, and clinical experience.
Fees start at $75 per 50-minute session.
Sliding-scale fees vary based on household income and size. Availability and fees may vary depending on the therapist and your individual circumstances.
How Do I Find Out My Fee?
To learn more about available therapists and determine your sliding-scale fee, please contact our administrative team at (512) 329-6611.

Training & Supervision
Austin Family Institute is both a mental health organization and a training institute. Our Graduate Associates and Post-Graduate Associates receive ongoing supervision, education, and professional support as they continue developing their skills.
Our training model reflects AFI's commitment to providing accessible, thoughtful, and systemic mental healthcare while supporting the development of the next generation of therapists.
If you are looking for affordable individual, couples, or family therapy, we are here to help you find an option that works for you.

Good Faith Estimates
Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and facilities are required to provide a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges for items and services to individuals who are paying out of pocket for services both orally and in writing, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services.
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes
related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item.
You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 877-6966775.
