Chris Cisneros, Graduate Associate

Supervised by Lauren Masciarelli MA, LMFT-S, LPC-S

Chris is a native Texan with familial roots in Western Europe and Peru. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies in 2016. During his undergraduate coursework, he worked as a laboratory assistant, studying interpersonal factors that relate to suicide risk and symptoms of depression. He has also worked in psychiatric settings as a mental health technician, supporting individuals through their personal growth with encouragement and empathy. He graduated from Texas State University with a Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling and a focus in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling in May 2023. With more than seven years of mental health-related experience, he respects the unique perspectives each client brings with them into therapy.

As a therapist, Chris strives to create a safe space for individuals, couples, and families to work towards their goals in a collaborative way that values diversity and individual needs. He prioritizes forming a therapeutic relationship built on trust and empowers all clients in their strengths. Through this process, all clients can find their own sense of clarity, compassion, courage, confidence, curiosity, creativity, calmness, and connectedness. He believes comprehensive care connects supplemental knowledge from fields like psychology, neurobiology, sociology, and anthropology with beliefs a client may have about their spirituality and relationships to the self, others, and the world around them. He finds creativity is a great way to explore where the two overlap. In his own time, he enjoys practicing storytelling through writing fantasy, video games, songwriting, and his outdoor adventures. He encourages his clients to explore their perspective through their preferred form of expression — provided they are comfortable doing so. Whether it’s sharing creations or just talking it through, he enjoys being a part of his clients’ journey to find their own ways of healing and thriving.
