Samuel Gollub, Graduate Associate

Supervised by Stacie Robertson MA, LMFT-S

Sam Gollub specializes in family therapy. Whether new parents trying to navigate the rigors of raising young ones or old pros facing the challenges of their growing children, families can bring out their healthiest dynamics through therapy. He believes in pushing shifts across whole systems for meaningful and enduring change. When we are able to not only be our full authentic selves but communicate that self to others and be truly heard, healing and relational repair can take place. Sam strives to create a therapeutic space of respect, acceptance, and curiosity to empower clients to work through even the most challenging of life’s moments.

Sam takes an experiential approach to therapy. When the emphasis is on the experience, making sure the therapeutic relationship is a good fit is essential. He uses compassion, humor, and understanding to help clients feel comfortable being open and honest with themselves. At the same time, therapy isn’t always easy. As in any growth-oriented relationship, Sam challenges clients and expects them to challenge him. This back and forth encourages progress and gives voice to differing perspectives.

Sam moved to Austin three Summers ago to escape the Northeast’s snowy winters and to enroll in St. Edward’s counseling program. He has professional experience working with children with a focus on their social and emotional development. His background in cultural ethnography has helped shaped his belief that context is everything. We cannot fully understand without first knowing all the surrounding factors, all the moving pieces, all the different actors. This is true across individual, couples, and family counseling. An interest in aid work led Sam to study and work abroad in Senegal, Belize, and Vietnam during his undergraduate years at Elon University in North Carolina. These experiences honed his ability to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds. Outside of therapy, Sam’s usually lost in music, a good book, out hiking, or experimenting in his own kitchen.
