Austin Family Institute grew out of the Austin Academy for Individual and Relationship Therapy, founded in 1996. Since that beginning in 1996, the organization has continued to develop as a premier place for the practice of Marriage and Family Therapy. Is has also grown into a teaching and training facility for graduate interns and associates pursuing marriage and family therapy.

Michael Bishop, Ann Marie Fleming-Glick, and Liz Gentry are the founders and co-directors of Austin Family Institute.
