Directors

Dr. Michael Bishop and Liz Gentry are experienced clinicians who have earned the respect of the professional community for decades of committed and effective couple and family therapy services. Both Dr. Bishop and Liz have been elected to statewide executive leadership positions with the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Brad Kennington works with individuals, couples, and families impacted by eating disorders and is nationally recognized for his work with eating disordered males. Lauren Dolph specializes in working with children and adolescents ages 10 and up, as well as young adults. In addition to offering couple and family therapy services, our directors direct AFI's vision, provide clinical supervision and community education, and speak publicly.

Faculty

The Austin Family Institute proudly boasts some of the nation's leading couple and family therapy experts. Dr. Jennie Barr is a trauma expert whose expertise has been called upon to respond to national crises, and our Consulting Psychiatrist, Dr. Afshan Khan is a child and adolescent psychiatrist with training in psychotherapy techniques and family therapy.

Graduate Associates

Our graduate associates are graduate students in their last stages of training before they graduate with their master's degrees in professional counseling and marriage and family therapy. Our associates receive the most intensive training available when they are selected by AFI directors and faculty. Graduate associates provide services on an affordable sliding scale.
